Sunday, July 4th, 2004This is the first of many posts and musings to come. We decided to put this journal up to converse about our work from our main site Sonet Web and also muse about Internet technology in general.
In the meantime we are migrating our older blog material over here from a blogger site we were using - and will place the post in the appropriate date formats. We find that by having your own URL and hosting for a blog you are not subject to the rules or creative limitations that blogging establishments may place on their clients.
Anyway, without further ado - welcome.
UPDATE BLOG CREDITS 01/08/2006
After reviewing many templates and marvelling at the sheer number of excellent layouts and designs we have finally settled on one we are happy with. What I found is that most Wordpress designs are created by individuals based on either their design experience or/and influences. With that in mind there was only one option to find the time and recreate our own version.
The default Wordpress template is the Kubrick Theme, while we found that to be the real heart of Wordpress templates it was not quite what we had in mind. We saw the CleanCut design and liked it, again there were layout issues we had with this and it’s functionality.
We set to work and extended the width of the template, and then we ‘Widgetized’ the theme. This was important. Wordpress 2.0 and above supports Widgets that make the sidebar easy to change and adds some really neat features we did not want to miss out on. Next, a paint palette and ‘hex mash up’ and a small production number on aesthetics and you have the theme you are now viewing. A lot more went into this theme than meets the eye. Getting meta-description to work for the home page was a lesson in re-hacking, some plug-ins had to be recreated and voila we are almost there.
